St Andrews Reserves 1 Harboro Reserves 2 Match Report

Harborough Town Reserves manager Tony Sansome:

“St Andrews Res 1
Harborough Res 2

You can tell the time of year when plenty are missing (especially defenders again) but our large squad meant we still managed to have five subs.

Another uni day with the wife and oldest daughter yesterday, and a mad dash down the M1 from Derby to arrive 6 minutes after kick off and to hear the sounds of Harborough celebrating a good finish by Louis Martin. I say good finish, I missed it but I’m reliably informed it was, Katie and myself got out of the car leaving the wife to navigate herself out of the car park (no easy task) and back home, not sure I was overly popular at the time.

We then proceeded to dominate the remainder of the half but a mixture of poor finishing and an equally poor final ball meant it was 1-0 at half time, although the hosts had an excellent chance to equalise but Tom Cockings made a good one on one save to spare our blushes.

The first 25 minutes of the second half was pretty much the same, and Josh King did make it 2-0 on 52 minutes. But St Andrews pulled a goal back with a good finish and definitely had the best of the final 20 minutes although a mixture of poor finishing (must be catching) and desperate defending meant we held on to a deserved win although they will certainly feel their spell at the end deserved something.

This was a decent game played by two young sides (we had 6 teenagers in the starting line up and another on the bench) and reffed well.

Good luck to Andrews for the rest of the season and we now look forward to the long trip to Potton a ground that hasn’t brought much luck during the last couple of seasons.”
