Harborough Town Reserves manager Tony Sansome on their 3-0 win against Irchester United Reserves:

“We were not at our best yesterday, although it was a professional display, and we managed to keep the ball on the deck and play some decent football, we just kept taking an extra touch and perhaps didn’t show as much patience as we expect.

We got the best possible start, an inch perfect through ball from Jack Clipston found Josh King and he ran through beating the keeper at his near post for his 19th of the season. We had other moments during the first half and poor finishing or a poor final ball was generally to blame for not adding to the score although we did score on 37 when a good ball out of defence from Sam Edwards found Alfie Harris with a lot to do, he managed to wriggle between the two defenders and clean through he finished well from a similar angle to the first goal.
We thought Kieron Bedford had scored but the keeper pulled off an excellent save low to his left. Irchester though were looking dangerous from set pieces and they definitely had a height advantage In that area.

We started the second half much better and forced a couple of excellent saves from the visitors keeper. When that spell of pressure didn’t see us score we felt that we started to go a little long at times, but we did eventually settle matters with a third, another ball out of defence this time from Bedford, saw sub Louis Martin who raced through and coolly lobbed the keeper. The strength in depth of the squad came through yesterday as we were missing some important players and had another 4 or 5 lads who didn’t make the final squad.

I wish Chris all the best with Irchester (except for two weeks time when we play them again), he’s one of the good guys, and we have similar aims with young squads. We now look forward to an away game against another young side in Daventry.”
