Derby Day Delight

It was derby day delight for Mitch Austin’s men as Harborough Town completed the double over rivals Corby Town in front of a bumper crowd.

The first half began as a cagey affair, but was nearly ignited by a brilliantly struck free kick from Josh Walsh that was more than matched by the save from Tomasz Bukowski in the Corby goal.

The visitors had a chance from their own free kick to get themselves ahead before half time, with Kern Miller’s header kissing the top of the crossbar.

The Bees added extra intensity in the second half and got the opener they were craving, as Nat Ansu converted Joel Carta’s cross at the back post with his first touch since coming on as a substitute.

Rhys Hoenes almost added a second for the home side after a driving run, but was denied by Bukowski who came off his line well to meet the shot.

Set pieces looked like Corby’s best avenue back into the game, but Elliott Taylor and his defence held firm, with Taylor making a smart save at his near post to deny the leveller.

Harborough managed the game well following their goal, and nearly added to their advantage through another Walsh free kick which once again was saved superbly by Bukowski in goal, keeping the score line at 1-0 come the final whistle.
