Match Report – Harborough Town vs Corby Town

A late rally from Harborough Town saw them cancel out Corby Town’s opener with the spoils shared in front of a bumper crowd.

The Steelmen started off the brighter of the two sides and called Elliott Taylor into action as the Bees’ shot stopper kept out a curling Daniel Gordon freekick before denying Connor Tomlinson after the attacker worked the ball onto his right foot for a shooting opportunity.

Tendai Daire’s shot represented the first chance for the hosts after he was played in behind by Jake Duffy, but his effort bounced just wide of the post after chipping Tom Finch in the Corby net.

Taylor would go on to make a number of important saves for the hosts, parrying Toby Hillard’s low driven shot away on the stroke of half time before standing tall to save Tomlinson’s strike after a Corby Town break early in the second half.

The visitors eventually got the better of Harborough’s number one through Jordon O’Brien, as the striker squeezed his penalty under Taylor’s body to put his side in the lead.

The Bees responded well to going behind and pressed for a leveller, with an instant reply getting ruled out by an offside call, but it was Corby who could have gone 2-0 up had it not been for the strong left hand of Taylor to deny Hillard’s first time effort.

Soon after Josh Walsh’s curling effort whistled past the post, Harborough Town found the equaliser they were pushing for with Connor Kennedy’s effort too powerful for the defender and goalkeeper despite their efforts to prevent it going into the back of the net. And the home side came within inches of claiming all three points as Ben Williams’ header struck the crossbar late on.
